MUSCATINE COUNTY, Iowa - Several inches of rain caused flooding problems in Muscatine County. News 8's Chris Williams shows how one man's home is now an island.

On Highway 70, just south of Conesville, Dean Midler waded through is front yard to show us his rain gauge.

"There it is, about five inches", Midler said.

And that's just from last night.

Midler described the storm, "It was raining and blowing so hard you couldn't see much of anything."

But when it stopped the Midler's found themselves sitting on an island. Leaches and bugs swam through the water today. Dean says the flooding is going nowhere fast. He thinks all of this is the result of saturated soil. In the past few weeks he's measured more than 12 inches of rain, and it's not just raindrops he's been dodging.

"3 weeks ago we had wind and my tree got struck by lightning. It knocked the top out of it."

Dean says the county road department and his state representative stopped by today to see if they can help get rid of all that water. Since there are few ditches along highway 70, and the ground is saturated, he may be forced to wait for it all to evaporate.
