Illinois Department of Corrections director resigns
The head of the Illinois Department of Corrections stepped down Thursday evening to pursue a new career opportunity.

Michael Randle will remain in his post until September 17 to help with the transition for his yet to be named replacement.

Randle's departure comes after a review last month of a secret program that granted early release to more than 1,700 prisoners. The review found some of those released prisoners had violent records.
