MUSCATINE, Iowa - More than 300 locked out workers at the Grain Processing Corporation in Muscatine say they want to punch the clock again. They've been camped outside the company since their contract expired about 14 months ago. An agreement hasn't been reached between GPC and the union which has left these Local Union 86D workers out of a job. The union employees said the last time they were at the bargaining table with the company was in early June and their requests for additional meetings have been ignored.

The employees decided to walk back onto GPC property and ask that they can work while the contract is being negotiated. The group walked across the street and was met with by a security guard. "We want who has authorization to let us come back to work while we're negotiating this contract. We've been out for over a year now and these guys want their jobs back," one of the workers said to the guard. The guard said he didn't have the authority to do that but did let them have a demonstration on GPC grounds.

"Companies like GPC can be irresponsible, damaging to communities we're a part of, hurt hundreds of families, damage local economy, all in the name of a little bit of greed," USW Spokesman Evan Gates said to the crowd.

News Eight spoke with GPC Spokesperson Janet Sichterman who said the company would gladly have the employees back, but not without a contract agreement.
