DAVENPORT, Iowa -
The family of an Iowa man says it's overwhelmed by the kindness of strangers.
J.D. Simmons died in an A.T.V. accident during a benefit poker run in August. The young father left behind a wife and two kids in Fort Madison.
Today Ruth Ahnen with Modern Woodman Financial Services presented a $2,000 check to the family. The matching funds are combined with a recent benefit at Knoxville Tap in Milan.
"It shows me how families and communities come together and help people they really don't know", said J.D.'s emotional widow Cathy.
J.D. and Cathy lived in the Quad Cities for several years before moving to Fort Madison. They would have celebrated their sixth wedding anniversary this Sunday.
