DAVENPORT, Iowa -
Saturday night, Davenport police responded to a call about an 11-year-old girl who was allegedly abducted off her bicycle. Thursday afternoon, police say the entire story was "concocted" by the child.
They say 60-year-old Marvin Ware of West Point, Iowa was driving on Brown Street in Davenport seeking a prostitute. 40-year-old Jeffrey Clay Morris of Davenport used the girl to entice Ware to pull his car over. Both Morris and the girl voluntarily got into the car. That's when, police say, Morris attempted to take Ware's money. Ware refused to hand it over, so Morris hit him in the face and head several times and took Ware's money. Both Morris and the girl left the scene. Police added that the girl was upset. When her mother confronted the girl, she came up with the "attempted abduction" story.
Police indicated that Morris knew Ware from past involvements with prostitutes. Ware is charged with solicitation for prostitution and will turn himself in on Monday. Morris, who was the "Good Samaritan" in this tale, is being held in the Scott County Jail under $10,000 bond. He is charged with second degree robbery and using a minor to commit a felony/contributing to a delinquency of a minor. At this time, no charges have been made against the girl or her mother.
