FULTON, Illinois -
The aftermath of a devastating fire led to a cry for help. A cry that could be heard across the country.
"I'm honestly hoping for a house for my kids," said Joey Stott. "A home for my family."
Experiencing the emotions, a local company stepped into action.
"That caught my attention as far as helping them out with their fire protection," said Dave Murphy, Company One.
At Company One in Fulton, fire suppression is a family business. So when ABC's "Extreme Makeover Home Edition" rolled into Lena, Illinois, it was a perfect fit.
"They said, sure, that's fine," Murphy recalled. "You just come up and do what you want to do, and let us know."
The episode will air Sunday evening at 7 on WQAD.
While 1,500 volunteers banded together to build a home for the Stott family, Company One joined the project. It provided a series of fire extinguishers to protect the property.
"I was able to get right up to it and offered to put them in," he said. "They said, sure, go right in and put them wherever you think they need to go, and that's what I did."
The extreme makeover took place in a week's time. There were many hands working day and night, around the clock.
It became a remarkable transformation that's more than a construction project. It's a labor of love.
"It's amazing," Stott said. "It's a dream come true."
"It's the most beautiful home I've ever seen in my life," recalled another.
After going through a fire in their previous home, the fire extinguishers take on extra meaning for the Stott family. Company One was happy to help.
"It's amazing that they can take a project like that and do that in a week," Murphy said.
While Company One tackles all kinds of projects, large and small, the experience of "Extreme Makeover Home Edition" will be tough to top.
"The whole thing is positive," Murphy said. "I would like to see more spinoffs in the local area of people helping people in need."
Just like this happy ending for the Stott family.
