QUAD CITIES, Ia./Ill. -
It's the time of year when families start watching the dates fly by on the calendar-- two weeks now to Thanksgiving, six to Christmas, seven to New Years Eve.
But this year, dozens of Quad City families have November 22nd circled on their calendar-- that's the day they're all going to help LaNae Ramos and her family.
LaNae, a mother of three, is married to Bettendorf Police Officer George Ramos. Besides raising her kids and running a daycare, she recently went back to school and earned her nursing degree this past May.
Just six weeks later, doctors diagnosed her with breast cancer-- two aggressive types.
Since then, she's undergone a mastectomy and is currently in the midst of eight rounds of aggressive chemotherapy. When the treatment began in September, LaNae's health began to suffer-- she now suffers from nausea and severe headaches, fatigue, dizziness and blurred vision.
The cancer has forced her to put her dreams on pause, as her husband and kids rally around her, helping around the house, making meals and driving each other from schools to doctors appointments to meetings.
George has often had to go on leave from the force to try and help at home.
Now, with times tough and money tight, the Ramos' friends and family members are doing what they can to keep the family's future on track and hopefully help get LaNae back on track to her dream.
They'll hold a benefit for her on Sunday, November 22nd, at Del's Pub in Eldridge, Iowa, complete with silent auctions, a 50/50 raffle, food, a bake sale and music. The benefit's scheduled to run from 1pm - 6pm.
Anyone-- individuals, families or local companies that can possibly help in any way should e-mail lanaesangels@yahoo.com. Updates on her condition are available at www.caringbridge.org/visit/lanaeramos.
