Brown Dog Foundation helps families with pet care

Owning a pet is not always easy, and it can be more difficult if an owner is going through financial hardship. But now one group is hoping to change that.

It is called the Brown Dog Foundation.

The organization, which started in 2006, helps families that are going through temporary financial difficulties pay for emergency or life-saving care for their pets.

Brown Dog's founder Carol Smock believes it is important to help even the smallest members of the family. Her mission started when she experienced the situation first-hand.
