TAYLOR RIDGE, Illinois -
The parents of a Quad City teenager who lost his battle with testicular cancer were honored Wednesday for their work in fighting the disease.
State Senator Mike Jacobs and State Representative Pat Verschoore worked side by side with the parents of Brandon Ballard to initiate "Brandon's Law."
The bill promotes awareness of testicular cancer to young men in an effort to avert another tragedy. Brandon's testicular cancer developed two years before it was discovered even though he was active and had yearly physical exams.
An assembly Wednesday at Rockridge High School in Rock Island County included Brandon's friends and former teachers, who say Brandon was a good student with a kind heart.
Local leaders now hope to take the "Brandon's Law" to the federal level to make it a national mandate.
