SILVIS, Illinois - Silvis fire investigators are trying to figure out what caused flames to race through the top of an apartment building. Assistant Fire Chief Steve Bein says when he arrived at 1906 Sixteenth Street Friday evening, flames were shooting out of the third floor and heavy smoke filled the air. Barstow, Carbon Cliff and East Moline Fire Departments assisted in fighting the fire.

One witness said she saw the flames, came running out of her apartment and called 911. "We were kind of worried about the apartment that was on fire becauseĀ…the lady that went in to see about them couldn't knock on the door because it was too hot. So, we didn't know if someone was in that one or not," she told News 8.

Chief Bein says everyone in the six apartments got out safely.
