Annawan guardsman hurt in Afghanistan returns home
ANNAWAN, Ill. - The city of Annawan in Henry County, Illinois, is getting ready to welcome home one of their own.

Aaron Carlson, 20, is a member of the Illinois National Guard unit in Galva, and recently received a purple heart for his service in Afghanistan.

Carlson was seriously injured when a suicide car bomb detonated near his post. He's been recovering from his injuries at Walter Reed hospital since January.

Friday, he comes home for two weeks for some rest and relaxation. The Patriot Guard Riders will escort Carlson home from the Quad City Airport along IL Route 6 thru Coal Valley, Geneseo, Atkinson and finally in his home town of Annwan.

Both of Carlson's brothers served in the same unit and say the welcome home means so much.

"I can remember when I got home, I have goosebumps thinking about it. To have people understand the significace of the war I've had so many people ask when he's coming back and say can't wait to be there" says Brandon Carlson.

If you'd like to show your support, you can rally along Route 6 in Annawan no later than 10am Friday. The rally will be followed by a reception at the town's community center.
