GALVA, Illinois—
Five area fire departments battled a blaze that lit up the night sky in Galva. Neighbors heard explosions shorty after midnight followed by employees yelling the plant was going to blow up.It was just after midnight when three explosions rocked a Galva neighborhood.
"We heard somebody over in the parking lot say get out, it's getting ready to blow" said Chuck Linscott who lives by All Feed.
Shortly after the explosions, fire errupted from the All Feed processing and packaging plant. Eight employees were inside, three injured, including Dustin Williams who suffered burns on his face, hands and legs.
"Something overheated, we started smelling smoke, shut everything down and we seen flames and it just blew" said Williams.
Employees say the fire started in the pellet mill causing a chain reaction through other machinery, eventually causing the bagging plant to go up in flames.
"I was running out the door the explosion knocked me out on my butt and i just slid" said Williams.
Neighbors say this was an accident waiting to happen. In January All Feed was slapped with 28 OSHA violations including eight for fire and explosion hazards.
"There was flames everywhere, this is not the first fire over here at All Feed" said Charity Bellinger.
All Feed owner Tim Anderson refused to comment to news 8 about the violations, but spoke with his injured employee about the fire.
