Work on I-280 Bridge to impact traffic

Lanes will be reduced and shifted as part of a $50 million project.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — A three-year project is expected to begin in mid-March 2021.  Workers are replacing and resurfacing the bridge deck.

The work will begin with the installation of concrete barriers, as they prepare for a traffic shift.  Lanes will be temporarily closed in both directions.

According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, by Friday, March 19, traffic is expected to be down to one lane each way.

Delays are expected while the work is being done.  IDOT suggests drivers take different routes when possible.

The westbound bridge deck is being worked on first.  IDOT expects work to last through November. The eastbound bridge deck will be replaced in 2022. In 2023 workers will be resurfacing the approach from the I-280 bridge to the Illinois 92 interchange.

Work is expected to be completed in late 2023.  The entire project costs about $50 million.
