'The community steps up' l Clinton County group holds kick-off party for annual holiday toy drive

"The community steps up huge every year, and we've never come up short yet," Scott for Tots founder Scott Stubblefield says.

CLINTON, Iowa — One area toy drive hosted a kick-off party celebrating donating toys to children for the holidays.

Scott for Tot's toy drive held a kick-off party at Legends Draft Haus in Clinton on Saturday, Nov. 5. The toy drive provides toys for children during the holidays for families in need.

Scott Stubblefield, founded Scott for Tot's five years ago, after Toys for Tots, an organization that donates toys to children for the holidays, left the Clinton area.

"They were no longer here to contribute for the holidays," Stubblefield said. "Some friends contacted me and I kind of was coerced into starting a toy drive on my own."

Organizers said Scott for Tots serves over 1,000 kids every year, and the community plays a big role.

"The community steps up huge every year, and we've never come up short yet," Stubblefield said.

Legends Draft Haus Owner, Connor Lee, said he appreciates Stubblefield's help to the community.

"Scott's a great guy, he does a lot for the community," Lee said. "So I'm super excited to help out as much as I can."

Lee also is a supporter of Scott for Tots.

"I sent my two managers out yesterday to Davenport and we bought a bunch of toys to donate, " Lee said.

Scott Stubblefield said he puts a lot of work into his toy drive.

"It's a lot of work," Stubblefield said. "I take a lot of time off work doing this, but the days of the distribution when the families are picking up the toys for their kids, it lets me know that everything that I missed out on at work or whatever, it was worth it.

Scott for Tots partners with RSVP, a volunteer organization for seniors, making sure kids get their presents. Anyone can drop off toys at any one of 40 Clinton locations, through Dec. 12. Among the locations include: Billion Auto, Citizens First Bank, Clinton Community College, Clinton Printing, Deanna’s Java, Farm & Fleet, and 1st Gateway Credit Union.
