Davenport police ID man killed in December shooting

Around 5 a.m., police responded to a shots fired call on West 16th Street and found the man deceased with a gunshot wound.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — A  middle-aged man was found dead after an apparent shooting Monday morning, according to the Davenport Police Department.

At about 5:07 a.m. on Dec. 5, Davenport officers responded to the 1500 block of West 16th Street after gunshots were reported.

At the scene, police found a 40-year-old man deceased as the apparent result of a gunshot wound. On Jan. 9, 2023, the department identified the man as Justin Royer of Peoria. 

Police said that they do not believe the shooting was a random act of violence.

This incident remains under investigation, and no further information is available at this time.
