Carson King teams up with QC area brewery for new fundraising effort

The guy who turned some beer money into a $3 million fundraiser is helping with a new fundraiser.

EAST MOLINE, Ill. — Carson King. He's the man who was at the center of a viral fundraiser that stemmed from a desire to get a little extra beer money.  At an Iowa State football game, he held up a sign asking for people to Venmo him so he could buy more Busch Light.

Carson King raises nearly $3 million for Iowa City children’s hospital

To his surprise, money started coming in and he ultimately was able to donate nearly $3 million to the Iowa City Children's Hospital.

In support of King's efforts, a local brewer, Glenn Cole formerly with Geneseo Brewing Company, made the "Iowa Legend" beer.

One year later, Cole and King are partnering to brew the "Midwest Legend," which is brewed and enjoyed in support of derecho storm damage relief and farms or small businesses struggling for a variety of reasons.

"Midwest Legend" is a blonde ale hosted by Midwest Ale Works in East Moline. The brew is being made available to any brewery wanting to participate.  Breweries who take part are asked to donate $1 for each pint sold.  More information on getting involved is available here.

There will be cans of the beer available starting Wednesday, September 29 in their tap room at The Rust Belt in East Moline.
